Province agrees to protect Duu Guusd

The provincial government announced Friday (March 28) that it has agreed to protect the Duu Guusd area from logging while land-use planning talks take place.
Duu Guusd is a 150,000-hectare area covering the northwestern portion of Graham Island. The Council of the Haida Nation has declared it a protected area and a Haida tribal park.
By provincial law, the area is considered part of the Queen Charlotte Islands timber supply area and the Ministry of Forests must consider it for harvesting, unless instructed by Cabinet to exclude it.
