Province gives $50,000 to Bill Reid Foundation

The provincial government is contributing $50,000 to the Bill Reid Foundation to help maintain the artist's collection, recently acquired from his widow Martine, while plans are made for a tour and future exhibition. The collection is currently in storage while the foundation works on a permanent BC facility for it.
Bill Reid, the prominent Haida artist, died in 1998. The foundation was incorporated in 1999 to preserve his art and perpetuate his legacies. The foundation's collection is made up of 110 pieces of mostly Mr. Reid's art and memorabilia, and includes some works given to him by his predecessors and successors. It has been appraised at $4.8-million.
