QC hospital project going well

The Queen Charlotte/Haida Gwaii Hospital replacement project is "going really well" says the project director."We're just finishing up the onsite preparations for the building," said Northern Health's Peter Kallos. "We're clearing out some of the old buildings."The old physiotherapy clinic is now gone and some of the new temporary building are almost completed, he said. "We've got the morgue and the workshop that are approaching completion and we've relocated a bunch of out-buildings to allow for space for the contractor to mobilize which will be happening this week," he said. The new temporary clinic above City Centre is up and operating with people attending appointments there since Aug. 12, and equipment will be arriving at the site of the new hospital soon."I'm really excited the project is going ahead," Mr. Kallos said. "We have a great contractor and we're doing our design meetings right now and we're working through all the spaces from the previous design." The new design will be virtually identical to the one unveiled to the public in the beginning of the summer. The hospital replacement project is expected to cost up to $50 million and should be finished in the fall of 2015.
