Queen Charlotte hospital master plan due out in May

Northern Health is still working on the master plan for the new Queen Charlotte hospital, says spokesperson Mark Karjaluoto. The master plan-detailing what services and programs the new facility will offer, and how much space will be devoted to them-will likely be presented to the Northern Health board when it meets in May, Mr. Karjaluoto.Once the master plan is done, Northern Health will start putting together funding for the project from the provincial Ministry of Health and the North West Regional Hospital District.Replacing the aging Queen Charlotte general hospital is a top priority of Northern Health, he said, but the project will be competing with other projects around the north for capital dollars.Meanwhile, Northern Health will be holding discussions with Skidegate representatives about how to improve health care services for both villages, Mr. Karjaluoto said.
