Rare holiday went well

by Alex Rawlings-It was difficult to imagine it happening. Sam and Shirley's vacation, that is. But it happened, and it's over. Their little neighbourhood store in Queen Charlotte's re-opened August 1 after being closed for the entire month of July. The well-deserved four-week vacation-their first in almost 20 years-ended the afternoon of July 31 when the Leungs arrived back on the Island, unaffected by jet lag, as they re-opened the store the next morning. How was the vacation, so needed after nineteen years without a holiday? "It was really warm there and very busy," said Shirley Leung, "I am really happy to have gone to Hong Kong, I missed it there. Sam, he missed the store and the people here," she said. According to Sam, his vacation was "good, I saw a friend that I hadn't seen in thirty years. I saw all my cousins that I was missing, and for sure my daughters were happy too."Despite it being their first vacation together, and Sam's first trip to Hong Kong in 19 years, the Leungs are grateful to be back on Haida Gwaii."I love it more here, it was too hot in Hong Kong, and it was too long to not see everybody, all my customers," said Sam who wasted no time getting back to work. "All my customers supported me as soon as I got back, and I am so happy no one tried to break in to the store. "Thank you to all the community for looking out for the store, I missed everyone, and I am very happy," he said, then headed back to work.
