Rec. coordinator position will be filled

The islands will continue to have a recreation coordinator, and the position should be filled by next week, says regional district administrator Janet Beil.
The future of the position had been unclear, but regional district directors decided Friday (Feb. 21) in Prince Rupert to keep funding it.
"The service is not being eliminated," Ms Beil said. "Someone is being hired."
The islands have been without a rec coordinator since Charlotte Johnson resigned in the fall.
The islands recreation commission has already shortlisted candidates for the position, and Ms Beil said she expects someone will be hired in the next couple of days.
The regional district has been spending approximately $85,000 a year for a full-time recreation coordinator, a part-time secretary, office rent and other expenses. The rec coordinator is responsible for organizing all-islands activities like the slo-pitch leagues, coaching clinics, and aerobics sessions.
