Regional district looking for space to store derelict vehicles

The regional district is working on a solution to the problem of derelict vehicles on the islands, says administrator John Holland.Mr. Holland told directors at their monthly meeting Friday night (June 19) that establishing a new recycling facility with storage space would provide a place for islanders to drop off unwanted vehicles. At the moment, there is limited space at the landfill site, leading to unsightly accumulations of car carcasses on island properties.Mr. Holland response was triggered by a letter from the village of Port Clements, complaining about the landfill's lack of space. According to village staff, there are at least 116 uninsured vehicles in Port, in conditions ranging from good to disintegrating.
