Rescue in Dixon Entrance

A Search and Rescue crew from 19 Wing Comox was performing a rescue close to Haida Gwaii again last week. The Buffalo aircraft was returning from Terrace when they were asked by the US Coast Guard to assist in the rescue of four American fishermen in a life raft, after their 84-foot fishing boat sank in Dixon Entrance, Thursday, July 26. "We got on scene just after midnight, within 25 minutes of the USCG's call," said aircraft commander Captain Julian White. "We homed-in on the crew's emergency beacon and quickly spotted the debris field from the sunken boat, as well as an emergency strobe light on the life raft."The crew of the Buffalo dropped smoke markers and parachute flares so an Alaskan State Trooper patrol boat could pick up the fishermen, who were rescued unharmed.
