Robert Davidson wins Governor-General's award

Robert Davidson has just won a Governor General's award for career achievement in visual art, which carries a $25,000 prize and an art work by Tony Urquart, who won last year.The award ceremony will be held March 31 at Rideau Hall, the Governor General's residence in Ottawa.Mr. Davidson is well known on Haida Gwaii and divides his time between White Rock and Old Massett. He has been described as one of Canada's most respected and important contemporary artists.He has been a leading figure in the renaissance of Haida art and culture for decades.Several other artists won the same award, including Rita Letendre, a painter from Toronto and Andre Forcier, a Quebec filmmaker.
