School board to acknowledge Haida territory

The school board will be acknowledging that they are on Haida territory at the beginning of every meeting from now on, chair Wayne Wilson says."We are on the traditional territories of the Haida and everywhere we go, we recognize that," Mr. Wilson said at the start of Tuesday's board meeting at G.M. Dawson school in Masset. "Thank you to them for allowing us to meet on their territory."Superintendent Angus Wilson said the Haida Education Council asked the board to start making the acknowledgment, a common practice in other parts of BC. Trustees have decided to do so."I think it's right we do this," Wayne Wilson said. "It is done everywhere else that we meet in the province."
