School district can sell Masset building

The school district has received permission from the Minister of Education to sell the 12-unit apartment building it owns in Masset.Secretary-treasurer Ken Campbell told trustees Nov. 30 that the apartment building, originally built to provide housing for teachers, is no longer needed. In fact, only four of the units are rented right now."In many cases, teachers have their own housing," he said. "It is not the district's business to be landlord for people who aren't working for the district."The district is not allowed to sell buildings or property without the minister's approval. Education Minister Margaret MacDiarmid signed the required document in late October.
