Schools to be seismically assessed

Island schools are on the list of 'high-risk' earthquake zones in BC, and will be given a thorough seismic assessment this summer.
The province is forking over $2-million for 800 schools across the province. The money will be used to determine which need upgrades, so that the ministry of education can prepare a long-term safety plan.
"We're working with school districts, engineers, researchers, and parents so that we can make sure out children are learning in a safe place," said Education Minister Tom Christensen.
The results of the assessments will be compiled province-wide to ensure that the schools with the highest risk will be improved as quickly as possible.
