Signs to get a make-over

More than 600 road signs on the islands will be more visible, thanks to a Ministry of Transportation and O'Brien's partnership initiative.Dennis Reindl of O'Brien Road and Bridge says all the regulatory and advisory signs on the islands will be more reflective when headlights shine on them once they are replaced. The ministry has changed the standard for reflectivity, he said, and has provided an influx of funding to get the job done. The brighter reflectivity makes them more visible, says Mr. Reindl. Most of the signs that will be changed are black and white speed advisory signs and yellow warning signs. When the Observer noted surprise that there were so many signs here, Mr. Reindl said there are over 1,500 road signs on the islands, including the delineators that have been going up on corners since spring. "I'm surprised too," he said.
