Skidegate book launch Sunday

The launch of a new full-colour picture book, The Canoe He Called Loo Taas, takes place this weekend.Amanda Reid-Stevens, daughter of Bill Reid, the legendary artist who created the 50-foot cedar canoe, wrote the all-ages book and award-winning artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, did the illustrations. The book is published by Benjamin Brown Books.Two launches will be held, one at the Haida Heritage Centre in Skidegate on Sunday April 25 (10 am to noon) and the other in the Lattimer Gallery on Granville Island in Vancouver (April 23 from 5-7pm). Ms Reid-Stevens will read at the Haida Gwaii event and the Loo Taas may even be taken out for a run. The event here is open to the public, but the Vancouver event is by invitation. Mr. Yahgulanaas will attend the Vancouver event and sign books. Ms Reid-Stevens will sign books in Skidegate. Ms Reid-Stevens has been writing whimsical rhymes and other works for years and this is her first published book.Congratulations, Amanda!
