Society receives grant

The newly-formed Haida Child and Family Services Society has received a grant to support an Aboriginal Elders Advisory Committee.
The agency is one of 24 throughout the province to receive a $5,000 grant from the Ministry of Children and Family Development to help develop or support existing committees.
"In Aboriginal cultures, elders are esteemed for their knowledge and leadership," said Minister of Children and Family Development, Stan Hagen.
"The guidance of the Elders Advisory Committees will be invaluable as Aboriginal people take the lead on designing and delivering the services they require.
The new agencies are responsible for delivering services to children and families in their communities and the elders will ensure cultural values are instilled in that work.
