Stolen car found at roadblock

Queen Charlotte police caught a car thief around 3 am Saturday morning, within minutes of hearing the car was stolen. Sgt. Eric Stubss said a Masset man stole a vehicle from the Queen Charlotte Legion. Police happened to have a roadblock set up on the highway. Just as police received word of the missing car, it drove up and stopped at the roadblock.
Police arrested the man, who will be charged with theft of a vehicle and impaired driving. The car was undamaged, and has been returned to the owner.
The other crime story in Queen Charlotte involves a break in at the thrift store last week. Thieves broke the door open and took the safe, which held a small amount of money. Someone found the safe washed ashore on a beach at low tide, but the money was gone. Police have no suspects and would appreciate any information.
