Stranding ends well

Two people aboard a 15 ft fiberglass boat were stranded in Masset Inlet on Wednesday (October 1) when their motor quit.
They left Old Massett around 7:00 pm, planning to travel to the Masset dock. Police received a call of overdue boaters around 9:30 pm, and were in the process of beginning a search, when the boaters arrived safely ashore. After the motor, a 45-hp outboard quit, the two boaters had to row ashore using one paddle, which took about two and a half hours.
The incident could have been much worse, say police, since the boat was stranded in fog with no running lights.
Masset police urge people to make sure their boats are properly equipped and in good working order with proper safety equipment before heading out on the water.
