Summer ferry schedule posted

Tourists and islanders alike can now book the ferry to Prince Rupert over the summer, after BC Ferries last week posted it's new, smaller schedule. The ferry will sail five times a week from June 28 to September 3 this year, one sailing fewer than in the past. The schedule is as follows:Leaves RupertSunday 10 amMonday 10 pmThursday 10 amFriday 10 amSaturday 10 amLeaves SkidegateMonday 10 amTuesday 10 amThursday 10 pmFriday 10 pmSaturday 10 pmSeveral people, both on Haida Gwaii and the mainland, asked Ferries to firm up the schedule as quickly as possible, to reduce its impact on tourism."We are confirming booking requests," said BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall on Friday, "anybody who requested a booking before the schedule was set should hear within a week." Ms Marshall also said new bookings are now being taken.Ferries plans to post other changed schedules on March 28, exactly one month ahead of the day the take effect. It continues to work on refining the Kwuna schedule to reduce impacts on commuters, students and airline passengers. The provincial government is behind the cuts. It ordered that $14-million be trimmed from BC Ferries' budget, and oversaw an unpopular and costly consultation process, in which the elected officials chose not to participate, late last year.
