Tall ship to call in Port

A 188-foot long tall ship will be stopping in at Port Clements this July as part of an educational journey along the northwest coast.
The S.V. Concordia will be carrying 65 crew, students and teachers who are spending the summer aboard the huge sailboat, taking classes in sailing, photojournalism and management.
Eric Prud'Homme, director of development for West Island College in Montreal, which runs the "Class Afloat" program, said this is the first time they have travelled to the Charlottes. This summer's itinerary also includes stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Prince Rupert and Tofino. The journey will begin and end in Victoria.
The Concordia should be quite a sight when it arrives in Port Clements on July 27. It's 188 feet long, with 115-foot tall masts. Islanders may have the opportunity to board the vessel while it's in Port, depending on the wishes of the captain, Mr. Prud'Homme said. It will leave the next day, July 28.
Port Clements council has agreed not to charge the vessel any fees for tying up at the village's big dock overnight.
