By Alex Rinfret--BC teachers' collective agreement is expiring this year, and local school trustees got a briefing last week on some of the issues likely to come up in negotiations.Sk'aadgaa Naay teacher Leighann Rodger told trustees at the Jan. 25 school board meeting that negotiations will probably open around the end of March.The BC Teachers' Federation would like bargaining to move back to the local level, Ms Rodger said. Teachers would also like higher salaries, to keep up with their counterparts in other provinces, and more preparation time.Ms Rodger showed trustees charts and tables that compared BC teacher wages and amount of prep time with those in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario."BC teacher salaries are falling behind," she said.Teacher salaries in this district, according to the BCTF, can range from $47,678 to $84,329, depending on years of experience and qualifications.
