Telus apologizes for problem

Telus is apologizing for an unusual equipment failure that left islanders with no internet service for about 12 hours last week. For most customers on Haida Gwaii, the internet went out the evening of May 9 and was restored by mid-morning May 10. Telus spokesperson Shawn Hall said technicians were aware of the issue immediately and worked through the night to get the service back as quickly as possible. The issue was a pair of cards, or electronic circuit boards, that failed in Terrace, Mr. Hall explained. Once they were replaced, service was restored."We certainly recognize how important internet service is on Haida Gwaii and apologize for the issue," Mr. Hall said. "We are throroughly investigating what happened, back to the equipment manufacturer, so we can prevent it happening again. As far as I know, this is the only time a card of this type has caused an issue like this in our networks."
