The HST has been with us for almost two months now, it's showing no sign of going away, so we thought we'd take to the street and ask a few islanders "are you happy or unhappy with the HST?"James Roberts-Port ClementsI don't like it, we're taxed enough. It doesn't affect the business much at all because we don't pay tax on our meats, just our hydro and that. I don't like the tax for personal reasons.Gail Huss-SandspitI don't like it. I went for a coffee at the bistro, and it's expensive. I notice the tax in the restaurants. I understand that some businesses don't like it because of the bookkeeping changes. It's going to be hard on people with limited incomes, they are already nickel and diming it.Lynda Dixon-Maude IslandYou know what, who cares about the HST? Really, our rent at the coop went up 7 percent, but you know it is helpful for farmers because we can combine the PST and GST now and write it off. It's kind of a kick in the head for some people who are down because of the economy.Patti Jones-Miller CreekI haven't noticed that it's made that much of a difference anything I have purchased so far. Mind you I haven't stayed in a hotel or anything, and I haven't eaten out either, but I really don't notice it.Bari Williams-TlellI don't like it. I am the postmaster here, and it puts another three cents on a small little stamp. And here at the booth (at the music festival), people don't expect the HST, and it adds quite a bit. It takes a $22 item and makes it $25 basically.Dave Pottinger-Port Clements I am not happy with it. It's another scam to pay for the Olympics. It's BS I have to charge it now and I had enough trouble with just 5 percent.Brock Storry-Port ClementsI don't like it. It takes money out of the pockets of the working man.Cindy Storry-Port ClementsI am not happy with it. I just don't like paying the tax on things I am not used to paying it on. I pay enough taxes.
