The Kwuna is back, starts service Tuesday

The MV Kwuna is back on the islands.
The little ferry left a Vancouver shipyard on Friday, under tow, after undergoing a thorough three-month long refit. BC Ferry Services Inc. Communications coordinator Ann Carpenter said the vessel has new engines, new drive legs and new generators.
Although the Kwuna's here, Ms Carpenter said it's not expected to start serving the Skidegate-Alliford Bay route until Tuesday (Dec. 20).
"People will see the Kwuna there but the tug and barge service will continue," she said.
There are two reasons for this, she said. First, the crew has to put back all the equipment and supplies they stripped off the Kwuna to get it ready for the refit. Second, Transport Canada requires all crew members to be re-certified because of the new mechanical equipment, so they will be doing that before taking over the route.
