The polls are closed, Islanders have voted

  • May. 12, 2009 5:00 a.m.

The polls closed at 8:00 pm, and the voter turnout was reported high, both on the islands and in BC. Now, it’s a waiting game, as the votes are counted. The three candidates (pictures, right) have done their utmost to win your votes. And in just a couple of hours, they’ll know, and we’ll know, who was successful. The Observer has two reporters working to bring you the results, and the commentary, as they become available. We expect to be able to declare a winner by 11:00 pm, but who knows, politics is not an exact science and it could take a whole lot longer. Check this site out throughout the evening. You’ll be among the first to know if it’s Herb Pond or Gary Coons for the next five years. And just how many votes political newcomer Lisa Girbav will take. We’re ready to roll. It’s going to be an interesting evening.
