The Heritage Tourism Society will host an event at the Delkatla Nature Centre in Masset Saturday Dec. 6 beginning at 10 am.
A light lunch of chowder and sandwiches will be served, says society board member Brian O’Hara. Society members will be available to answer questions about the Heritage Tourism Strategy. And-weather willing-a walk around the sanctuary is planned.
Last year, the strategy working group hosted an open house and hike in Tlell at the Anvil Trail.
Since then, the working group has completed its goal of creating a Heritage Tourism Strategy, and passed the torch to the newly formed Heritage Tourism Society. The society board will oversee the implementation of the strategy on the islands.
November 23, the working group and board met. “It was an opportunity to thank the working group for their efforts to create the strategy,” says Mr. O’Hara. The society began its work with two empty seats, which have since been filled. Kenny Edgars of Old Massett with represent the Haida Hereditary Chiefs and Natalie Fournier will represent the Archipelago Management Board. Robert Dudoward of Skidegate will chair the society’s board of directors.
The board will hold its next meeting-not open to the public-on Monday December 8.
