Two islanders seeking ferry board seat

Two people from the islands are among those who have applied to be on the brand new board of BC Ferry Services Inc.
Administrator Janet Beil said a total of four people from the Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District had applied for a spot on the board by the time nominations closed Aug. 8. Two are from the islands and two are from Prince Rupert.
Ms Beil didn't want to give the candidates' names because regional district board members have not yet heard who they are, but did say that the two from the islands "are both very good applications."
The provincial government has asked the four northern coastal regional districts to submit one or two names to fill one spot on the board of directors, which is supposed to start operating by April 1.
Ms Beil said this regional district will meet with the three other regional districts - probably at the Union of BC Municipalities conference in September - to decide which one or two names will be forwarded. The government wants the names by the end of September.
