Watch that dog

Loose dogs continue to be a problem in Queen Charlotte, Skidegate and Sandspit, say RCMP.
There's been a recent spate of incidents with dogs menacing or biting people, and one dog had to be put down in Sandspit after biting a teacher outside the school recently, said Cst. Pat Jenkins.
Because the communities are unincorporated, police have no animal by-laws to enforce. If a dog becomes a problem their only option is to destroy it. Police can also charge people with mischief or causing bodily harm, and they have come close to doing so on a couple of occasions, said Cst. Jenkins.
Police ask that dog owners tie up their animals or keep them confined for both their pet's and the public's safety.
