Weyerhaeuser hauling, log sort idle

Weyerhaeuser Co. Ltd. has temporarily shut down its hauling and dry sort operations at Juskatla, throwing about 40 people out of work.
Unit manager Ray Lorenzo said he expects the operations will be running again by early July, and that no one else will have to be laid off as the company works to build up its inventory of wood.
"There are still 100-plus people at work," Mr. Lorenzo said. "Our goal is to work with the Haida Nation and the Ministry of Forests through this process."
The Council of the Haida Nation must approve every volume of timber before the company can harvest it - a new system which has been causing some delays.
