Doug Bruce and Faron Mearns have reported the first whale sightings of the year. The gray whales were sighted inside Indian Head island, Skidegate Tuesday morning (April 9), followed by several other phone reports to our office as the week went by.
The whales spend the winter off Mexico (they're not stupid!), and pass by the islands on their way to their summer feeding grounds in the Arctic
They are pretty much on time this year. Often, they appear around the end of March.
