Workshop a success

Submitted by the QC Visitor Info Centre-Twenty-one local and Northern BC Tourism Association delegates participated in an informative packaging workshop
Participants from six island communities learned what criteria businesses need to meet in order to successfully promote themselves off-island; how to determine your target markets; different types of partners that can assist local businesses in promotions; how to price the services they want to sell; and how to build packages with other island businesses to increase the economic impact of tourism in our communities.
Instructor Karen Chalmers brought 20 years of experience in the industry. Her work has covered both domestic and international markets enabling her to respond to the unique cultural requirements of many different communities and countries.
Following the workshop, NBCTA delegates were treated to lunch, and a tour of Queen Charlotte and Sandspit, before heading back to Masset for their final evening on-island. Participants found the workshop/tour a pleasant addition to an already worthwhile weekend.
The workshop, held September 28 in Tlell, was sponsored by Tourism BC and the Queen Charlotte/Skidegate Landing Management Committee, and coordinated by Friends of the QCVIC,
