Yes, the weather was better last year!

So what did you think about 2002's weather? If it seemed better than 2001's, you're right -- it was.
John Davies has been measuring precipitation in Tlell since November, 1971. Here's some weather statistics he collected for last year, and 2001's data for comparison.
In 2002, 1168.8 mm or rain fell and 33.2 cm of snow; the previous year, Tlell had 1431.6 mm of rain and 31.8 cm of snow.
The record for precipitation was 1983 at 1491.9 mm and the record low was 1979 at 969.0 mm.
The hottest day of 2002 was July 22 at 23 degrees Centigrade, and the coldest days of the year were March 7 and 19 at -6.5 degrees. (Remember all that snow last March? The first day of Spring break, the kids were out sledding.)
In Sewell Inlet, Jack Collier keeps track of the weather. In 2002 he recorded 4764 mm of rain, which is about average. 2001 he measured 5410 mm of rain.
Although the rain seems about average, Mr. Collier says the winds at Sewell Inlet have been horrendous this year. Storm after storm has lashed the inlet. Mr. Collier estimates the winds have sometimes exceeded 100 mph, and in one storm portions of his dock were torn away. He can rarely recall seeing such high winds in the 32 years since he first arrived at Sewell.
Mr. Collier says he has no daffodils in the garden yet, but a poppy tried to bloom recently, so maybe spring isn't far away.
