Zoning bylaw comes to QC council Monday evening

Queen Charlotte's first- ever zoning bylaw is moving forward and will be considered by council on Monday (Aug. 12).Council will have the usual three readings at different meetings to give the public every chance to participate, said QC Chief Administrative Officer Peter Weeber. He believes, however, that residents will be pleased with the bylaw. "I think I have tweaked that thing enough based on feedback, that most people are going to be pretty happy with the final product," he told the Observer last week. Some of the tweaks include addressing riparian areas, which were a concern to some residents and some concerns over bed and breakfast restrictions. "Operators were concerned with numbers of rooms," said Mr. Weeber, "so I eliminated numbers of rooms and made restrictions on parking instead." The village helad four public meetings last spring to gain feedback on the proposed bylaw.Once adopted, it will divide the village into several zones, including rural residential, multiple family and commercial, but will not apply to existing buildings.
