Ferretti David Andrew, age 59 of Port Clements, B.C., passed away at home December 2, 2021. Born in Sandy Point, N.S., he was the eldest son of David and Linda Ferretti of Middle Ohio, N.S.
Growing up in a military family, "Davey" as he was affectionally called, travelled and lived at various locations across Canada and Germany. He displayed a talent for sports in his early years, especially hockey and baseball. He was also a regular participant in high school track and field events, and later became a lifelong fan of the Vancouver Canucks.
Following high school, he became interested in both the fishing and forestry industries. After gaining some experience on the east Coast, he moved to Haida Gwaii, B.C., to fish salmon with a like-minded relative. He logged there and on the B.C. mainland when he was not fishing, and would live on Haida Gwaii for most of the remainder of his life.
For a couple of years, he was employed with Begg Industrial Services, located in Edson, Alberta. While there he was assigned to a clean-up operation of a large oil spill in Lake Wabamum, Alberta in August 2005. Witnessing the plight of bunker oil covered birds and other wildlife left a lasting impression on him.
Born with a sense of humour, he had a quick smile, and was a great storyteller. Considered a capable handyman, he took time to help friends and neighbours with carpentry projects and wood splitting.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him as well as his loyal four-legged companion, Duke. Besides his parents, he is survived by brother Todd (Anneke) Elmira, Ontario, nephews Trevor and Jamie. He was predeceased by brother Kevin.
A private family committal service has been held. Donations in David's name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
