With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Herbert Bruce Hogben or Bruce to his family and friends on November 29, 2019 at Hospice house in Vernon BC. Bruce was born April 19, 1940 in New Westminster to Herbert and Geraldine Markel, and adopted by Herbert(Bert) and Teddy Hogben. Bruce married Marlyn "Cookie" February 26, 1960 they were together until she passed January 9, 2010. Bruce remarried Susan Young June 18, 2011 in Ontario. Bruce is survived by his loving wife Susan Hogben, his 6 children Herbert Hogben(Paula Delcourt), (Eunice Jones), Caroline (Terry Pipkey) Markel, Bruce (Kelly) Hogben, Robert Hogben (Lynda Duperre), Lisa (Bruce) Richer, and Spencer Young. He was the oldest of 6 children Barry (Karen) Markel, Judy (Gary) Hare, Linda (Hal) Medaris, Brian (Heather) Markel, Allan (Sheila) Markel, and Barb (Clarence) Kornatowsky. He loved his 11 grandchildren and was known as Chinaay to Benjamin (Corissa), Clayton, Samantha (Joleane), Alicia (Don), Kyle, Amanda (Takashi), Raley, Jordan (Jenna), Karlee, Chantal, and Mackenzie. He was also blessed with 9 Great Grandchildren Charlotte, Deja, Jacob, Lilli, Jesse, Naya, Kohana, Layla, and Sonoka. Bruce loved nothing more than his big family, they brought him so much joy and laughter.
Bruce enjoyed fishing on Haida Gwaii in his youth, driving across Canada with his family,
and being surrounded by his family and friends.
He was happiest when he had everyone over at his table eating good food and a rum and coca cola on hand. His home and table were available for anyone in need. Bruce's openness,
laughter, storytelling, and kind heart will be greatly missed by anyone that had the privilege to be in his life.
His service will be held at the Vernon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses December 9, 2019 at 2 pm. The family has asked in leu of flowers to please make a donation to the Vernon Hospice House.
