Did you hear what happened a few weeks ago? Okay, listen closely and I’ll tell you. A two-person ballet came to Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay and performed The Jabberwocky, originally a poem by Lewis Carrol. The ballet was written by Capri Aspé, and inspired by the fact that her village’s people gossip too much and that the gossip isn’t all true.

In the ballet, the Jabberwocky is a monster fuelled by gossip and rumours who grows to a massive size when the conditions are right. The protagonist, Yukina, gets too carried away with a fake rumour and the Jabberwocky almost destroys everything. The message is to not gossip too much or believe everything you hear.

This isn’t a rumour — it’s all true: classmate Aaliyah Arens is doing volunteer work at Tahayghen in Mrs. Hausmann’s class, she teaches Grades 2, 3 and 4.

Aaliyah helps the kids with their writing and spelling. Aaliyah wants to help the students achieve whatever goals they have in schooling, although sometimes it is hard to be patient with younger children.

Overall Aaliyah enjoys working with and helping with younger children’s learning needs. Volunteering to help with the learning of younger students could soon be a lot easier, if the amalgamation presented ends up happening more students could be doing volunteer work with elementary aged students.

Two tournament finals happened — one went well, the other didn’t. The competition with the most prestige, The Champions League, did not go well for Juventus. Real Madrid was able to win the game 4-1, being the first team to win two consecutive Champions League titles in a row, and have won it three times out of the last four years.

Christiano Ronaldo got a brace (scored two goals), Madrid’s other goals came from Casemiro and Marco Asensio. Mario Mandzukic scored Juventus’ lone goal with a spectacular overhead kick. Next year’s Champions League title is already decided, Bayern Munich are going to win, that’s that (or so I hope).

The island soccer league has come to an end for this year. In my opinion it should continue, I would like to play more soccer.

There are two Division 2 Masset teams. My team made it to the finals, but couldn’t play because we had six non-injured players and had been playing the tournament with only 10.

The first game we played was against SGI (South Graham Island) A, we beat them although they scored the first goal. Later in the day we played Sandspit in possibly the best and most exciting game of the season, both teams played a great game.

At the end of the first half our team was down, by the end of half-time we were mentally prepared to win the game. We did just that.

Desmond Setso managed to score an important number of goals in the game, and every player on the team played an equally important role.

On Sunday we played our final game and won 2-1 against SGI B. I hope Raquel Lavoie’s knee heals up and Owen, from Sandspit, feels better and is home soon.
